The transition to an electronic journal production workflow can be a difficult process. Often when the first results are achieved, a sigh of relief is heard and then it's back to the work as usual, albeit in the new workflow. However electronic workflows bring new quality control issues, especially in the production of PDF, XML, and HTML, that are often overlooked in the day-to-day struggles of journal production. These quality issues are hidden dangers that can undermine a publisher's investment in electronic production, and compromise a librarian's ability to find and archive scholarly research. This presentation will examine quality problems in electronic production and discuss effective strategies that can be used for quality assurance.
