Institutional repositories present a support for the development of digital content which offer the functionalities of collecting, preserving and the dissemination of all forms of digital content generated on an institution. Moreover, they support the principles of open access.

Initiated by Srce Computing Centre in 2014., this system is a result of cooperation of a broad academic and research community. It has been recognized and implemented by over 80 higher education and research instituions which set up their institutional repositories using Dabars' infrastructure for storing and long-term preservation of their master, docotral thesis and other work generated as a result of the activity of said institutions. Notably, it enabled the National Theses Repository – ZIR, a collection of all the b. a. and m. a. thesis stored in institutional repositories using Dabar system.

Through continuation of collaboration among institutions that signed this Agreement, but also through collaboration with the broad academic and research community, Dabar will strive to enable storing scientific, research articles and other forms of works such as papers published in journals, conference proceedings,  book chapters, books, power point presentations, posters, lectures and other forms of digital materials, as well as improving the existing and developing new functionalities for the system.
